Article Translation –

ZX81
UFO NEUTRALISER / NUMBER GUESSING
?…contact the editorial department!

UFO NEUTRALISER

Destroy the 3-directional flying saucer that comes from the left corner by using 1, 2, 3 for FRONT, DOWN and UP, respectively. The more to the right it is, the bigger the score you get, but if it goes all the way to the right, you’ll instead be deducted a total of 20 points. There are 9 rounds, with each one getting progressively faster.

NUMBER GUESSING GAME

The computer chooses a number at random. You get to guess it up to 10 times, and if you can’t the computer calls you stupid. I mean, how can you fail if the number only goes from 0 to 9!?
Guessing right once nets you 5 points. Anyway, this game is all about feeling it out, so stubborness preserves. All you need to do is enter a number!

Modding advice

These games were programmed using the ZX-81 base unit alone (1 Kbyte), so I don’t think you can add anything else to them. For those who own a 16K pack, however, you can make UFO NEUTRALISER more complex by, say, making your own UFO or adding even more directions.
That being said, I live in a poor household, so I have to make do with the base ZX-81 and a TV; buying stuff like the 16K RAM pack is out of budget for me. This is what I’ve been working with so far (Actually I thought of making whac-a-mole, but that ended up not being possible so I made these games which I think are similar). Also, I used NUMBER GUESSING GAME (KAZUATE GAME) from Spetember’s BASIC Magazine as reference.

CHECKER FLAG

Editor: These ZX-81 programs are short ones, eh?
Dr. D: They are a fine contribution, but it’s a shame it was made by some Mr. Nobody.
Editor: Putting no name is an automatic 0 in the test. Though we do have our fair share of Mr. Nobodies at the office.
Dr. D: To whoever contributed these, it’d be nice if you could contact the editorial team.
I don’t want you ending up like Kage.
Kage: Did ya say somethin’???
Dr. D: Just your imagination, just your imagination.
