Article Translation –

Let’s Play Patchin, Masaru!
Mitsuru Yasuda

“Let’s play patchin, Masaru!”, said Tsuyoshi to his friend under a beautiful sunset.
And so they both went to Masaru’s house.

How to Play

After inputing the program and RUNning, the screen will appear after a while. Then, the main theme plays and the game starts!
Stop the patchin going left and right at the top of the screen by pressing the Space key; this will make you throw the patchin in your hand (you’re Tsuyoshi, the white boy on the left).
If you drop the opponent’s patchin’ (dropped), sneak underneath it (Under) or turn it over (Turned), you’ll get their patch. Rinse and repeat until the game is over.

Conclusion

This program was a simple one to make. I especially made sure to make the presentation as humorous as possible.
I used “Akatombo” and “Tonbo no Megane” as the background music.
I forgot to write that before, but when a patchin is turned over, it’s inner side has no picture. Also, Tsuyoshi’s (you) patchins are blue, whereas Masaru’s (CPU) are red.

[ CHECKER FLAG ]

Dr. D: This game has a heartwarming atmosphere. I love these kinds of submissions!
Chief: It may not be a real time game, but you can’t help but get absorbed in it.
Kage: Those graphics are pretty well drawn. And the way those patchins move feels very real.
Editor: The name of this game’s different depending on where you are. Patchin, menko, petan…
Dr. D: I used to call it menko back in the day.
